BMW Says Tesla's EV Supremacy Is Over, And BMW Wants To Challenge It

At present, in the field of electric vehicles, Tesla is absolutely in a dominant position, and it is a new energy car company that cannot be ignored. However, many car manufacturers now want to challenge its position, and BMW is no exception. Recently, BMW said that Tesla's electric car dominance is over. What's going on here? What does BMW want to do?
BMW has ambitious plans for electric vehicles, predicting that by 2030, at least one in every two BMW vehicles will be fully electric. As sales of BMW's electric vehicles grow, the German automaker intends to challenge Tesla's dominance of the U.S. electric vehicle market. As a reminder, Tesla overtook BMW Motor Co. as the top seller in the U.S. luxury car market last year.
This year, BMW aims to sell 200,000 electric vehicles globally, double the number it delivered last year. While that's still a long way from Tesla's sales of more than 930,000 vehicles in 2021 and possibly more than 1 million in 2022, BMW executives appear to believe Tesla will lose its competitive edge.
According to Automotive News, BMW Group sales chief Pieter Nota told U.S. reporters at a press conference that the company would "focus on electric vehicles for very strong and rapid growth."
For Tesla, BMW has two new products: the BMW i4, which competes with the Tesla Model 3, and the iX SUV, which targets the Model X. Pieter Nota called the i4 the "ultimate electric driving machine" and the iX "the electric product BMW consumers have come to expect."
Orders for the i4 and iX are full, and U.S. dealers have hundreds of orders for both cars. In addition, Nota said, the order cycle is now about six months.
