Last year, Tesla revealed that two new Gigafactories in Texas, USA and Berlin, Germany will start production. However, a series of delays in mass production of the 4680 battery version, global chip shortages, and the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war have all caused the mass production of new cars in the Gigafactory. The progress is questioned. However, according to Tesla's official interview invitation, the Berlin Gigafactory will hold a new car roll-off celebration on March 22, when Elon Musk will attend and personally deliver 30 Model Y Performance new cars to customers.
This news coincides with what was previously reported by foreign media, that is, the official operation celebration is expected to be held on March 22 or 23. The Tesla Berlin Gigafactory was supposed to start production in July 2021, but because Germany had not yet completed the verification work.
The final environmental permit was finally approved last week, but according to German Environment Minister Axel Vogel, Tesla still has about 400 conditions that need to be fulfilled, and the plant must meet all of them within two weeks before it can actually get a full permit to start. In other words, if all goes well, the Berlin Gigafactory will not be able to start construction until after March 18 at the earliest, and hand over the first new cars on the 22nd.
Next, the Berlin Gigafactory is expected to produce up to 500,000 Model 3 (parameters | Inquiry) and Model Y each year to supply the global market. There is also a small detail. The picture used in the invitation letter is a gray Model Y, but the 30 Model Y Performances that will be handed over to the owner on the 22nd should all be black, because according to the prospective owners who have pre-ordered They said the Performance model was only available in black, and there were no other colors to choose from at the time.
